California’s crowded, protracted gubernatorial primary is going to take a little more time to settle

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra caught up to Republican frontrunner Steve Hilton in the primary race for California governor, trailing the GOP rival by about 8,700 votes, according to the latest vote count by the NBC News Decision Desk Friday.

Democrat Xavier Becerra will advance to California's general election, the Associated Press, NBC News, and Decision Desk HQ have projected. This news comes days after election night, as California’s primary results are still taking shape as counties continue counting ballots and updating totals.

If no candidates receives a majority of votes, the two top candidates will move on to an election in November.

Senate Republicans might advance the funding bill without a $1 billion provision for the Secret Service that would go toward the White House ballroom project.

In-person voting for the June 2 statewide primary election began Saturday at 122 vote centers in Los Angeles County.
