The U.S. Supreme Court has blocked Alabama’s use of nitrogen hypoxia to execute a death row inmate who was convicted of killing two people in Dallas County, and Alabama leaders are now reacting to the decision.

The Supreme Court ruled late Thursday evening that Alabama cannot immediately execute a man using nitrogen gas.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said in a statement Thursday evening that she was “disappointed” in the ruling, but was “committed to ensuring that justice is ultimately served for (Lee’s) victims.”
