Republican Steve Hilton has clinched his spot in this November’s election for California governor after earning enough votes to get second place behind Democrat Xavier Becerra.

Becerra, who ran a campaign focused on his government experience, was already projected Friday evening to advance to the general election.

Graham Platner remains the candidate expected to win the Democratic Senate primary in Maine, but voters have mixed views about his viability going forward. CNN’s Arlette Saenz spoke with some of those voters.
